First GIFs!
As promised, here's the first batch of GIFs to show the progress of Bloodlust: Santa Monica so far. Let's start with a simple video of the player movement. Point and click to move your character. There's still some work to do on path-finding, collisions and shadows, but it's pretty functional for a first iteration. Also, you can point and click items in the environment (there's no highlight effect of the selected item yet). Right click to perform the default action. Most items (such as the watch on the first GIF) have "Look at" as default action. Doors and drawers have "Open" as default action and NPCs have "Talk to" as default action. This is supposed to reduce unnecessary mouse clicks.
The second GIF shows the inventory at work. You can pick up items, such as the painkillers in the toilet cabinet. The item is stored in the inventory, where you can look at it again to see the original description. Nothing too fancy. As you can see, the player can pick up objects through walls, that's not a special vampire power, it's a bug.
Let's see a bit more of the dialog system. You can talk to NPCs and choose your phrases in full dialogue (old school dialog choices!). Animations are just a couple of frames for now but I'll try to work on facial expressions and small details later on. The dialog system and the portrait system work together to make the character talk during the typewriter effect that shows the dialog text, then the portrait goes back to the idle blinking animation.
And the last GIF is a small playthru of the first two rooms. There are more rooms and characters to come in the next weeks. I'll try not to spoil the puzzles too much.
