Dialog SFX!
This week I've been toying with a lot of things: lights, animations and NPC dialogues. The main addition of the week, however, is the dialogue sound effects. In the first demo, I received a lot of critiques on the dialogue sfx because they were procedurally generated and they sounded a bit crappy. My fault, I did the coding of the sfx in less than an hour, playing with a single dialogue tone and varying the speed and the pitch of the NPC voice. Despite my initial efforts, the procedural dialogue sfx was horrible and nobody liked it. So I've taken the opportunity to rework the dialog sfx from the ground up. Taking Undertale as a reference, the amazing Fredrik Thrysoe took the reins of sound design and with a bit of cutting and syncing the results are showcased in the video. It's just still a first pass, but they sound a lot better. Each character has a distinct personality in their voice and speech velocity.
